Hello, I'm new at all this, thanks in advance for your help. I've just bought a used 1985 17' open bow w/ a mercruiser 140mr (alpha, or pre-alpha). The exhaust bellows are bad & have been removed. I picked up the part figuring it would be a 1/2 hour job ! I've decided to baby out, & take it in for the repair. I can't believe no one has figured out how to do this w/ out removing the outdrive. Any ideas what a job like this should cost ? Aside from the extra noise & mess, can I operate the boat like this until I can get it in the shop. Thanks, jake620

I wouldn't if i were you.You may burn a hole in the u-joint bellows from exhaust leakage when the boat is at w.o.t.

It's tricky, but it can be done with a little patience. Get a manual for your engine and it tells you step by step how to do it, whether you take the bell housing off or not.

the exhaust bellows can be replaced without removing the drive. use a piece of string to hold the bellows in place while securing the clamp. old school style
