My 5.7l with cobra drive runs the exhaust straight out of dual pipes in the back. Is the exhaust bellows on the drive necessary? Also would taking it off make any difference, good or bad, on performance or maintenance?

I would leave it as a safeguard in case the block off plate leaked. No performance change. It will keep water out of the old exhaust area.

Since you have through hull, the bellow serves no purpose. Take it off or leave it on, it is up to you.

It's of no use if you have through transom exhaust. And even if the block off plate were to leak, the exhaust bellows couldn't stop anything, they are full of water all the time anyway.

Thanks, I'll leave it on for now but if I have to take it off for any reason I'll probably not bother to put it back on. Both it and the u-joint bellows seem to be in incredible condition for having sat for 10 years, not hardened or crystallized, no tears or anything
