Exhaust Bellows Question

Boat: 79 Lund 19' with a 228 Mercruiser engine.

I'm going to order a kit to replace my Bellows and hoses in my stern drive. The kits show exhaust bellows as being collapsible like the drive bellows. However the rubber part on my exhaust bellows is just a sleeve that slides into a fitting when the drive is lowered. Do I need to go with the type in the kit or just use the type already on the boat? I'll include pics of whats on currently.

Also, I'm having a heck of a time determining exactly what drive I have. Drive serial number is 5295593. I'll include pics of the drive. Can someone identify what drive I have?

Re: Exhaust Bellows Question

Looks like a pre alpha or Type R.

No don't use the exhaust bellows and instead use the exhaust sleeve like you have, yours might be ok ? About $20 and installation is a snap compared to the bellows.

Re: Exhaust Bellows Question

it appears that you have the exhaust tube on the boat now, it is fine to use the same part when you replace it, if you want to go with the exhaust bellows you will notice a very slightly quieter motor and i mean only slightly, and the collapsable exhaust bellows will require a special tool to install it and is harder to install, my suggestion is stay with the tube,

Good Luck and happy boating

Re: Exhaust Bellows Question

If the two parts of your tube slide together properly (they should almost never wear out), I would not bother to replace them, use the savings to upgrade to genuine Mercruiser parts (driveshaft and shifter bellows) rather than aftermarket. Just my opinion:rolleyes:.
