Re: exhaust bellows with no expansion tool!
Well, I just finished mine today (1981 pre-alpha) without the tool. It was a total pain, but it's done. No fancy tricks, just stretched the bellows out a little overnight, raised the drive, clamped it to the transom side first, lowered the drive all the way down, pushed it all the way starboard (which causes the starboard side of bellows to slide on itself if you have it lined up), then worked the port side on from the port side using a combination of tools I could find to fit in the space. I ended up bending the tip of a coat hanger into about a 110 degree angle, and sliding it into the bellows from the side which allowed me to grab hold of the inside edge of the bellows and pull it out and over the exhaust port. After it was on, the coat hanger slide right back out. Getting the clamp tightened thereafter was also a pain due to the small space and not being able to raise the drive (less the bellows would pop right off). I used a combination of things (flathead screwdriver inserted into a small socket so i could turn it as well as a small wrench) to tighten it up with lots and lots of very small turns. This part would be easier if you remove your drive first so you could get a screwdriver on it, but, I had just finished filling mine for the 2nd time this fall (working on other things) so didn't feel like messing with the lube again.
So, yes, you can do it without the $40 tool if you're persistent, a little creative, and don't mind a few scraped knuckles.
