I have a rig that allows you to easily replace a busted exhaust bellows WITHOUT removing the sterndrive. Would be glad to send pictures and directions if anyone is interested. No one around here -- or the shop manual -- seems to think it can be done. Draining and pulling the sterndrive is a bummer.....

Now that my sterndrive (on my 1986 SVC 195 SS) is ready, I am again looking at the engine. Rough start. Sounds like it is running on three cylinders with smoke until warmup (about one minute). Then it smooths out and performs great at all speeds -- still overhaul break-in so nothing over 2000. If you were to guess, which would you look at first: Ignition, carb, lifters, vacuum, etc. Timing is ok. And new valve job. Thanks guys....

Re: Exhaust bellows

I would look for vaccum first since you say it runs good when warmed up. Also the smoke shouldnt be there unless you have leaking valve guides
Rob

PS can you send me pics and instructions on the exhaust bellows

Re: Exhaust bellows

just had all kinds of the same problem, with a 1992 bronco; factory or napa plug wires kinda loose.
and a lo battery will mess it up, if a computer is there.
