Has anyone found an aftermarket source for exhaust elbows for Volvo Penta gas engines with catalytic converter? I am told they are only OEM, not aftermarket.

Over time there will be fewer and few engines without catalytic converters. So the aftermarket will dry up. Is it just VP or no exhaust parts for Mercruiser with catalytic converters either?

Do they last longer or just more expensive?
The OEM paid to prove they are compliant when they emissions tested the motor. The aftermarket would have to pay for testing. The juice is not worth the squeeze

The whole exhaust is cast aluminum. Looks like cast iron but is cast aluminum as proved by a magnet. Would they last longer than cast iron? How about in salt water?

Why go to aluminum?

With hard anodizing, it's better than iron

It's lighter than iron

How will it do with salt water running through it? Same issues as cast iron? Still have to replace every few years in salt water. Each exhaust elbow is $1250.

It will outlast iron as long as you do not scratch thru the hard anodized layer.

Muc mentioned this a few weeks ago
