Exhaust Exit

Sorry if this is a silly question, but where does the exhaust exit the boat/outdrive on a Mercruiser 3.0 /Alpha One combination ?<br /><br />I was under the impression that it came out through the centre of the prop, but mine looks as if it is coming through the area around the transom bracket.

When running, the exhaust comes out the prop, but when at idle there are 2 idle reliefs on the transom shild that allow the exhaust out without going through the prop.

I was going to ask the same thing. Glad I found this. One more thing, Even when I put the prop into gear the amount of water coming out of the prop didn't seem to change. Is this normal?
