Exhaust manifold drain

I originally posted this under risers because that was where I started to look for my problem. I see the manifold drain under the starboard manifold that has two hoses and a ball and o ring in it is leaking. The o ring is available so the part is supposed to come apart. I took the hoses off and the lower part only spins. It does not unscrew. Tried to pry on it with a screwdriver and it will not come apart. Tried to unscrew it but it will not budge. I am afraid to force it and have it break. At this point I am thinking about just forcing some sealer in there and keeping an eye on it. Any thoughts? Thank you, RR

Re: Exhaust manifold drain

That is it. Part numbers 8 to 11. We cannot get it out of manifold and I am afraid to break it. Can I take it apart while it is in manifold? Are we missing something in separating 11 from 8? Thank you, RR

Re: Exhaust manifold drain

There is nothing in any of the service manuals on that part (or set of parts). As it's shown 'broken down' it does appear as it's designed to be taken apart. Having never done it, I can't help on how it's done. But as I have them in my boat I might just go out and have a look and see what it's all about.... Or you might just be the trailblazer and tell us all how it's done... :D :D :)

Re: Exhaust manifold drain

Like I said in the other post I took off the bottom hose and the bottom part just spins. We tried to pry it apart with no luck. Tried to unscrew the whole assy. with vise grips and a pipe wrench and it will not budge. I think I am going to try to clean it up and force some silicone in it and keep an eye on it. Not wanting to pull off manifold if we break it. Thank you. RR

Re: Exhaust manifold drain

Just had a look at mine. Looks like it should just pry apart, but it also looks like it's best done when off the manifold... There appears to be a couple of pry slots in the top of the lower half of the fitting... I'll be draining my manifolds for an elbow replacement job in the next few days, I may pull one of the fittings out and have a look at it on the bench, just for curiosity, and to help you guys out...
