I have a 29 foot Blackfin Flybridge with 1999 Volvo Penta 7.4GI / 300 hp twin inboard engines. At the end of this season I started hearing a banging noise in the port engine when I increase rpm to 3000. Port engine will not go more than 3000 rpms. Compression test shows low compression in one cylinder on the port engine. I need to replace exhaust manifolds and risers and investigate port engine issue. I am trying to become a DIY. Any advice, contacts or direction would be much appreciated. Thanks

Hi there, Have a few questions to get to know your situation.

Is your boat trailerable?

Are you in a slip someplace?

Own a trailer?

Welcome, Profile?Location? You might be close to someone who can help?
You know the age of the manifolds/risers?
The affected motor. The plugs, any water or rust?
Drain the cooloing system and the oil.
Remove the exhaust.The intake too.
Then remove the head.
The banging could be a rod maybe a valve.

Do you have closed cooling/heat exchenger that cools the manifolds? If not, no need to drain the cooling system. Just need to remove the water hose that goes from the thermostat to the manifold before removing.

No need to drain the oil either.

Re: Exhaust Manifolds and Risers

I suggested a drain cause he's probably gonna need to take the head off too.
