exhaust question

i have a 82 140 hp johnson i bought as a parts motor removed lower unit and noticed the inner exhaust gasket was not installed correctly half was in the opening . my question is what problems / running issues , noises would this have caused thanks for any comment

That happens a lot. It is not a big deal. It would allow exhaust to escape at the seam of the gearcase and midsection. Maybe the motor is a bit louder.
