How hard is it to get to the exhaust shutters? I know they are in the tops of the Y pipe. I'm guessing the rubber coupler will be stuck to the metal pretty good. Is there a good tip or strategy for getting in there without tearing the rubber?

The alternative to sliding the rubber hose down is to purchase exhaust manifold to riser gasket(s) and pull the risers off out of your way. That lets you work your way down to the shutters.

I was very concerned as to how stuck they would be when I did shutters on my 2000 boat last year. I shot with PB blaster and using a screwdriver I was surprised how easily they separated from the metal.

Yeah, the cooling hoses are always stuck to the thermostat housing, so I just figured the same problem would happen with the exhaust couplers.

On this topic, is there a known temperature that the risers should be running at on a 5.7 L.

My starboard riser is quite a bit hotter than port. I know this has been asked many times with other threads, but what is normal temp? The port riser feels very cool compared to the starbrd. The strbrd feels more like the block, but not quite that hot.

I took the temps on mine and I think they are good. Just cause it feels hot doesn't mean it's really extreme.

I got 115 F starboard and 93 F port for the risers at idle.

Normal for one to be hot to the touch. I've never pointed an IR gun at them but I'd say your temperatures are in the ball park.
