How much 2 cycle smoke is to much? I am new to boating and I just got my boat started after is has been stored for 2 years. Seems to run ok, maybe a little rough (new plugs, fuel filter, gas, LU oil). I know 2 cycles have that blue exhaust, but how much is to much? I know that might be hard to explain, so maybe someone has a good answer. I have been running the engine in the driveway with a flush kit and it has a good amount of exhaust (not over bearing, but i'm the sure the neighbors would complain if I ran it to long). Anyway, just need to know if there are issues with the engine that needs to be addressed.

1984 Mercury 35HP
Thanks

if the eng.was properly fogged out for storage, when you started it,(first time )it should smoke like a house on fire.did it once by the house on muffs, someone called FD ,after that took it down to the dock to smoke it out. no harm if it smokes,at least you know its beeing lubed.

Are you running 2-year old gas? New fuel might help, mixed at 50:1 ratio with good oil. Cheapie oils may not burn as cleanly, hence will smoke more. Personally, I prefer the oils from the motor manufacturers, but there's a million and one opinions on that one... It's certainly not a bad place to start...
- Scott

Re: Exhaust Smoke

Great. Thanks all. It sounds like I have normal 2 cycle smoke. And yes, it's new gas. I will try other brands of oil to see if it makes a difference, but all in all it sounds normal. By far, this is a great forum.
