Exhaust Temperatures - Bad Impeller - Melted bellows.... Question!

I have a 2008 Monterey 194FS with the volvo outdrive and GXI 4.3 motor.

Recently the exhaust over heated on the starboard side. The culprit (I believe) was an impeller blade broke off and got lodged in the water inlet of the starboard side exhaust.

The 2 rubber bellows on the starboard side got so hot they started to melt.

Long story short, bellows on starboard side, as well as impeller have been replaced. I ran the boat on the hose, and pulled the water inlet feed to starboard side to verify waterflow was back up and running (all good).

Initial water test going relatively slow in the river here, the exhaust manifold on starboard side gets very warm to the touch where the port side is nice and cool.

HOWEVER, when feeling the rubber boot right after the exhaust manifold..... on the starboard side its cool, on the port side its warm.

Should I be worried about anything? Can this be normal? I'm just trying to avoid another melt down and near fire.

Thanks Everyone!

On the hose it's common for one side to be hotter than the other. Not enough flow.
In the water it's not.
Depending on how hot it is??? Can you leave your hand on it?
Even at cruising speeds?
The riser could be clogged with rubber from the impeller?
You get out all the old pieces?
You take the thermo housing apart to get all the pieces?
It's 6 years old and the riser/ manifold shouldn't be clogged/ rotted out.
Take the rubber boot off and check for corrosion.

Always replace the riser gaskets after a overheat on Volvo's. Best to use Volvo gaskets. X2 on checking the thermostat housing.

Thanks for all of the replies! When I put everything back together on the starboard side, I did use a new riser gasket from Volvo. I did NOT check the thermostat housing..... when I ran it on the hose in the driveway, I pulled the hose off the thermostat that feeds the starboard side exhaust (problem child side) and it was squirting water out at a nice rate.

When I found the one piece of impeller stuck in that hose prior, it fit up perfectly to the broken off blade, however, I did notice I'm still missing a little piece....... but this could have easily been blown out as well.

I will pull apart the thermostat housing and check in there, better safe than sorry. Shouldn't be too difficult.

When I tested the boat all put back together in the river......... the port side stayed cool to the touch....... while the starboard side DID get warm........ but I could hold my hand on it just fine. I only tested this going about 6mph up and down the river. Haven't gotten up to cruising speed yet...... although I'm a little worried if its getting warm just going slow.

Thermostat housing... time to check that...... I'm assuming I'll need a gasket for that?
