I'm looking for some small engine repair help. Any input would really be appreciated.

I have an old briggs 10 hp with no compression, I have removed the head and removed both the valves, the seat for the exhaust is loose and spins, it also moves up and down a little. I'm pretty sure this is the cause of the problem. Alum block, horizontal shaft, 1 cylinder.

How do you repair this?

Does a new seat have to be pressed in or is there some other way to repair this?

I did see a u tube video on pinging a valve seat to set it in place, but I don't know if this is a good solution.

The seat will not pop out, there is a small lip above the seat preventing it from coming out.

Where do I go from here? Thanks in advance for any help.

Neighbour used to own bumper boats and he would rebuild those twice a year, he had special briggs cutters for all that stuff.

I would try peening it back in. Here is the repair guide, and tool numbers if you need them.

rbh - I wish it was something fun like a bumper boat - just an old mower

Cofe - That's awesome. Thank you very much. That certainly lets me know what I have to do next.
