EXPERTS' Jonny/rude SPECIAL one?

I live in a marine / fishing community and have been doing small engine repair after retiring from the military, mostly lawnmowers, garden equipment etc. I have been repairing allot of small outboards mostly Jonny's and Rudes. I am offered quite a few junkers as trades for good running mowers, trimmers, services etc. Is there any "special" or wanted jonny/rudy model that I should be keeping an eye out for? one example I have noticed that folks seem to ask for is the 15 hp with the troll dial on the side. Ive fixed a couple of these up and they sold fast. any others?

You know your market better than any on this site, (but, there is a stronger market for the smaller motors, under 50hp)

The 9.9 and the 15 hp models are the most in demand for smaller boats or as kicker motors for trolling.

An older 5.5hp is also a hot item if in good shape.

60's 10 hp of the qd series are amazing motors, 20hp Johnson's seem to be rare, especially with a good lower unit. The 9.9/15 are good motors, my only beef with them are the troll knobs which seem to be missing on almost every motor because they are plastic and break and the throttle gears.

Thanks' exactly the info I'm looking for, just picked up 2 johnny 20 hp's both are complete. And now maybe I understand why a guy just gave me 500. for that rude 15, it had the troll knob intact. Also I have sold one of the QD 10's, by the way would you happen to know what QD stands for? I'v been working on these older 2 strokes for about 2 seasons now, basic repair stuff, but I really know very little about what is sought after one to the other. I'm sure some are a bit more rare than others, as you stated even lower units and such, thanks again!

Personally I have never been happy with the 9,9/15 as a 'semi' commercial engine, and most definitely not as a trolling engine.
To weak in design, particularly wrist pins/pistons and cooling system.
Yearly impeller change a must.
The 6/8 with a 'sail' propeller and a throttle handle clamp was to me perfect as trolling engine.
The 25(2 cyl) with the 4-blade prop originally designed for the 3cyl 25/35 outstanding in its class.
But my all time favorite as a work horse was the 45 Commercial with the big 3-cyl gearcase housing.

9.9 or less is good for most small lakes. That may be the future for states other than CA.

Right now I need a Starter for an 85 Rude. 1978. Any starter from 85 to 115 hp if you have one. I'll even take pieces if they are usable. My Brush plate broke.

QD was just a series like any other Johnson, TD , FD, all kinds of letters, it was associated with horsepower, QD being 10hp, FD being 18 etc etc.
