Explain 9.9 model ID

I have what I think is a 1986 9.9.

Model # j10rcdb

Is this right:
J= Johnson
10= hp
r= rope start/commercial cd ignition
cd=1986
b=production run

yep, that's right. Note that they call it 10hp in the model but it is a 9.9. That's just the way it is. They couldn't call it a J99RCDB, because that would indicate a 99hp.

I was confused by the rope start, mine has electric start as well and it doesn't look like theres ever been a tiller on it. All the steering controls are Envinrude simplex which I would guess is not stock and the steering tube is welded across the transom bracket ( not a very good job as well). Any ow I may keep the electric start and try an d put a tiller back on it.
