I am reparing a 1975 Chrysler 5 HP for my 11 Year Old boy this summer, for little dighny. I have a 5 HP with dead lower unit and a 4.4 with good and an extra l/u. However the 2 extras are long-legged. I can change the driveshaft easily from the bad unit. Can I just unscrew the shift rod and screw the short one down in - or can I see a picture of the internal in this lower unit somewhere online ?

G Dane...the shift rod can be changed as you suggested...you may need to experiment with the length of the the shift rod...the drive shaft will come out freely, but you will most likely have to take apart the lower unit to replace it...
I might have some exploded drawings, if you want I can email them to you...just some Thoughts

Hi Thought 101

I´d very much like to get a drawing, my wives e-mail is salg@romantiskbad.dk . Another problem I met now is that drive shaft is rusted firmly into cranck. I secured two pieces of wood around lower unit and bounced it with a big hammer. It tore waterpump apart and lower unit got off, but drive shaft is still stuck in cranckshaft. I now turned it upside down and tried to soak it with penetrating oil and wiggle it now and then, but no progress. What do I do now ? I think this is a cool little 5 HP, design was far ahead of its time, really like to get it running, my 11 years old boy has a 9´ dighny for it from 1969 cute.

G Dane...you might have an easier time with the powerhead off...last resort is to saw the shaft off, drill it out of the crankshaft and try to restore the splines in c/s somehow...all the waterpump parts are easily replaceable...good luck...just some Thoughts
