I have 94 maxum 1800 with the 4.3 ,4bl carb engine. recently purchased and used 5 times. What happens is cold upon starting,I pump 1-3 times, choke is set closed at that time,I've checked with spark arrester off ,accell pump operation on each pump,it has good spray of gas. Now when cranking it turns over and over and over then suddenly fires right up and runs perfect! I'm starting to get the feeling that it may not have ignition until maybe it sees oil presure? And I'm wondering if the boat has an low oil presure shut down feature that may not be being over ridden for startup for some reason. Just thought I'd ask as I was helped so much on an outdrive lube problem from you guys. Now I haven't got to check for spark or coil voltage while first cranking cold,I'm thinking of doing that to qualify igntion or fuel if no one has seen this before . Thanks Tom. PS ,when warm engine starts with a bump of key every time and idles perfect in and out of gear,no drivabilty complaints at all ,but even sometimes luke warm engine ,after sitting for 30 minutes or so will give me trouble. I would like to fix this as I don't like using that much starter motor all the time. I have a brand new high cap. battery also.
