Received extended waranty offer for Mercury 2011 60 4-stroke EFI engine ( 1, 2, 3 or 4 yrs). Because of low annual runtime of about 10 hours, I'm leaning on declining. Engine runs beautifully now and with proper maintenance my sense is that it will run fine for many years but I don't know anything about its track record. Anyone have any waranty issues with the Mercury 60 4-stroke EFI?

Welcome to iboats. When does the current warranty run out? Soon, I bet. And it's not free, is it? Standard marketing method and has nothing to do with anything except your money. Or rather more of your money.

Thanks GA_Boater. 3 year factory waranty expires October, 2014. Acceptance of Mercury's offer (1 yr $345, 4 yrs $959) must occur prior to start of last year of factory waranty. Looks like you would "save" your money. Thanks

How far will $345 or $959 go if you ever need any type of repair? I'm not normally a fan of extended warranties. Split the difference, put $620 in the bank, and have it for future repairs. Keep your money in your own pocket/account/mattress/mason jar, etc...

The one time I bought one, Ford Motor Co. paid for a new transmission for my car. They are not all bad.
