Noticed a slow intermittent leak where the trim hydraulic hose connects to the ram on the passenger side. Put a wrench on it and the nut didn't noticeably turn but the leak appears to have stopped. Noticed slight bulging where the rubber meets the metal part that connects to the ram. Couple questions:

1. There are several hydraulic hose companies in my area. Thinking about pulling the hoses and having hoses made, probably with the stainless jacket. Good idea or should I stick with original parts? Had a quote for the hoses at $258 + $30 freight. Seems expensive? If original parts are recommended, any idea what the part number(s) are so I can shop them?

2. Replacement seems straight forward where the hoses connect to the ram but not so at the connection closer to the transom. How much disassembly is requried to get a wrench on the upper connections?

3. Am I correct in assuming that the hoses should be disconnected with the outdrive in the down position? After the hoses are replaced do I just need to cycle the drive a couple times and refill the hydraulic reservoir as needed?

Thanks in advance for any input.

Re: Exterior hydraulic trim hose replacement

I would hit your local hydraulic shop. I did for my power steering hose, cost me $30 vs $245 from VP
