Does anyone know what the long skinny black plastic block with green, green and white and black wires coming out one end and I think going up to the trigger and out the other end are a blue and blue and white wire running to the top and bottom terminal on the right side of the switch box. The long black box with wires coming out seems to be filled with a soft silicone type filling. I don’t see anything in the diagrams that look like that.

Starts up fine. Idles fine. Seems to miss a little when throttling up. Comes up on plane good. After 15 or 20 minutes at wide open throttle it just bogs right down (doesn’t stall), comes down from plane and reduces speed from 25 miles per hour to about 7 mph. After it sits for a while it will repeat the same thing. Plug on number 2 cylinder is more fouled than other three. I just purchased a compression tested, new gas line and filter. I will post compression test results tomorrow. Checked the coils With meter and they all look to be fine and within spec.

I just finished the compression test after a 5 minute warm up, results as follows:

Cylinder #1 - 129
Cylinder #2 - 129
Cylinder #3 - 125
Cylinder #4 - 125

I did notice a trickle of water coming from just left of Cylinder #1 spark plug. I initially thought it was coming out of a little hole just left of the plug but on closer inspection it appeared that is was coming through a seal just below the hole.

i also had a fair amount of water dripping out around the bottom of that cover just below the bottom engine compartment. It’s the place we’re the classic fifty logo is.

im going to run some Seafoam through and see if that improves compression on bottom two cylinders. I’m am still trying to source what is acceptable compression for an 88 Mercury Classic Fifty.

Cylinder #3 - 124
Cylinder #4 - 125

Almost identical to the first test. I did find the water leak under the classic fifty shield, it was coming from a split in the tell tale nozzle. When I removed the nozzle, I ran the engine again and with less restriction on the tell tale hose I didn’t have any leak at the gaskets to the left of the top spark plug. I guess I’ll replace the tell tale nozzle with a new one but I think I may have to replace the head gasket if the new tell tale puts pressure on water cooling and leak beside top spark plug. then it’s off for a test run to see if any improvements have happened. I don’t know what else to do beside take it to a mechanic and they aren’t cheap around here.

There is a " water jacket" gasket.-----There is no cylinder head on that motor.

You might want to leave the water jacket gaskets the way it is; these bolts tend to break.
You don't really need a nozzle at the end, just modify hose so the water spray out under the bottom cowl
