Recently met a guy who's a producer at a major network news dept...spent a couple days before & 3 weeks following Katrina in New Orleans. Told me about a car dealer (who also owns a few dealerships in my town), where the NO police drove a car through the showroom window, used a forklift to carry the key safe out to the shop, where they cut it open with a torch, and stole, or should I say commandeered 273 brand new vehicles including Hummers and $50,000 Escalades.

Most of the vehicles were recovered, abandoned on the streets, out of gas.

Just an interesting story I thought you'd enjoy. :)

Re: Extreme Looting

jtexas,
The term is appropriated, NO finest APPROPREATED those vehicles, so they could move them to higher ground..................Much in the same fashion some of NO finest were taped “securing” merchandise from local stores to prevent its theft.

jtexas,
My son is employed at one of the Dallas area dealerships that you refer to. He has confirmed your story. Just want to add that the N.O. store was a 5 story building. All of the vehicles were removed from the third floor or higher.
