Hey folks, I've been eyeing up a new project which is between 2 different hulls. One is a late 80's Alumacraft Classic 16 and the other is a late 80's Starcraft SFM160. Both are in sumular condition and need about the same amoumt of repair. At present neither has an enigine which isn't an issue for me and doesn't influence the purchase of either.

The issues I have questions about are these. The Alumacraft was originally a SC steer that has had the console removed. Anyone have an idea as to what it would cost to replace/rebuild as close factory as posible? Anyone on this board have one that could supply pictures or measurements?

On the Starcraft it has what I believe is carpet on the deck from bow to stern as many of the Stars, Sylvans and Smokers do. It is shot, worn and torn. How is it attached? Would I need to pull the rubrail molding and interior molding to replace it? This is not the carpet on the sole just to be clear.

The carpet on the SC will be more work, but easier to replace than the console on the AC.

The carpet on the SC is glued and should pull of with your bare hands if it is old/worn as you say, the hard part will be removing the old dried adhesive which can be stubborn. A chemical stripper will help, as will a sharp scraper or wide wood chisel... then a wire cup brush in an angle grinder to remove any residue.

Re: Eyeing a new project.

I was thinking the console would be easier though more costly when considering the cost of the steering wheel and cable. Wish I had a picture of the carpet on a Starcraft.

Don't want to steal dozerll thread but the deck on the Starcraft I'm looking at is the same as the ones in the 4th and 5th pictures in his thread if this helps.. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=528421&highlight=starcraft
