Are you telling us it wasn't winterized? Gas goes old in a matter of months. It has to be treated or drained. It's not usually such a problem in EFIs, but can be. How old is the gas?

Re: f150 engine problems

you will need a fuel pressure test gauge. it should have 43 PSI or so on the rail at all engine speeds. if not check for restrictions ,note that the mechanical lift pump will become very noisy if its running dry. the vapor seperator has a filter just above it and a filter in it that can clog.
once the VST is verified ok you can test injectors by running with the air box off and spraying fuel down each air horn while running at the problem area under a load.
the injectors all have filers inside them as well. they are easy to remove just dont drop the rubber rings that seal the injector to intake.
takes me an hour and a half to change the filters and flush the injectors. I am getting good at it.

Re: f150 engine problems

does not sound like an overheat, sounds like the VST is contaminated, the drain is the small pink tube and the screw just above it on the VST, drain off a sample but odds are that filter, the one 4" above the VST, and the injectors are stopped with trash from the fuel.
an overheat would have lit the visual indicate on the tach, set the alarm audible and set speed reduction.
to test remove the temp sensor and install a 2000 OHM resistor acrossed the plug and then short the temp switch pink and black wires and start the engine. it may delay up to 75 seconds to activate above 100 RPM or so.

yep, keep jacking it and you will find the abuse clause in your warrenty.
no worries about being in the bush. I do it in Venezuela occasionally. however I always carry enough parts to do almost an overhaul.
my reccomendation would be carry spare plugs, intake orings, injectors, injector to intake orings a spare VST and VST prefilter as well as the VST oring. will all fit in a box less than the size of a shoebox, including the nessasary tools for removal/install.
or keep the fuel system maintained top notch. one or the other.
the mechanical and ign system is about as close to bullet proof as it can get, the fuel system has a weakness common to ALL makes of EFI.
it cannot will not and wont tolerate contaminated fuel.
90% of all the work I do on EFI 4 strokes are either improper breakin or contaminated fuel.
