Got a call from a friend, says his 06 Yamaha F150TXR, four stroke hits full throttle then begins to lose rpm's. So today I went out with him, and heres what I noticed.
Motor started easy, and hit almost 6,000 rpm's right off the rip. Then about a minute later it began to drop rpm's to about 4,500. The idle was then choppy (about 400-600 rpm's) and when you put it in gear it would shut off. You can snap it in gear, it'll take off, hit about 5,500 rpms, then drop off again.
Heres what I did. I squeezed the primer at idle and it felt a little soft. I began to pump it and the idle evened out...every time. The fuel hoses on the motor are in great shape, but the external line, not so much. Fuel water separator looks like something dredged off the bottom of the Charleston Harbor.
Im thinking it's a fuel line related problem, and he needs to replace the fuel line, and the whole fuel water separating unit. I cleaned the filter on the motor...it was pretty clean from the get go. Is there anything else I should check? Any other filters I should look at?
Also, it's a 25" shaft (with the 5" spacer), how do I disconnect the shift shaft? Going to replace his water pump while im at it.
