Good Evening Everyone. I have been reading on this forumn for quite some time and must say that their are some very skilled people on here that have helped me and others with many issues, and for that I thank you all. With that being said I am reaching out to you all for some more help..I have a 2002 F225 (265hrs) that I bought about a year ago and I have had an issue after idleing for a while since the day it was installed. It will idle for a while and then run out of fuel. The ball can be pumped and it will start up and go for 5 or 25 minutes and do the same thing. I have read every post on this issue and have tried everything I can think of with no luck. Below is a list of things that have been done by me or a mechanic with no luck.
1. Fuel lines and pick up tube are all new from the tank to the motor.
2. All filters have been changed and both fuel pumps output have been
confirmed by Mechanic
3. All fuel has been drained from tank, tank is visually clean and refilled with
non ethonal.
4. New check valve installed on the tank
5. All fuel line connections on the motor have been checked visually
The only thing that made a difference was changing out the F shaped filter above the low pressure pump and that only lasted for a half of a day which was a 40 mile run offshore at high speed (no problems at high speed) and then we trolled for two hours and then it started again. The odd thing is that when it happens the ball feels like it is full of air and wont pump fuel until it starts. I could be wrong but it seems like the air should be able to vent somehow. its almost like the motor is building pressure and pushing air back towards the primer ball. I have also put the fuel lines under 10 psi pressure from the filter back to the tank and soaped them down for 20 minutes with no signs of leaks thinking I was pulling air somwhere. I dont understand why the F shaped filter would cause this or mabye it was just a fluke that it ran good after that was changed and the problem is something else. I have visually wathed the clear filter mounted on the motor at idle and the low pressure pump cycles on and off like it should and the fuel level drops about 3/4 inch and after the pump shuts off I can see the fuel being pulled in from the line coming from the Yamaha 10 micron seperator filter. I know this has been gone over and over but no one seems to be able to pinpoint it and I am running out of funds trying to find it. Any suggestions would be appreciated
