I have a 225 4 stroke that the dealer has had several times to try and fix. It is very rough runing At abought 1100 rpm when coming off of idle. Then it smooths out and runs fine. They have replaced the plugs and 1 injector #1.none of the above repairs helped. This engine also shifts very loud is there a switch to reduce the engine speed when shifting grars? Thanks for any help.

Re: F225 rough idle

hello
what is the current idle speed in nuetral? when did the problem start? what year is it? have all the updates for regulater/rectifier driver been done? has the throttle bushing update been done? has the intake vacum ports been checked to insure proper closing and balance of the intake air?. how many hours are on it? have you had a lap top read out and do you have it with you ?

these motors are mostly trouble free. trouble is to many techs dont understand how the subsystems work to make a big part.

Re: F225 rough idle

Answer Rodbolt's questions and also have a leakdown test done by a QUALIFIED tech. I've found many F200-225 4-strokes get carboned up valves and rings from extended low speed running, especially during break-in, and from not using the recommended dose of Yamaha Ring Free. The leakdown test will probably show several cylinders with high leakdown rates thru the rings or intake valves.

The factory recommended fix is to run two 6 gallon tanks of gas using the "shock treatment" mixture of Ring Free, 2 (yes, two) oz. per gallon of gasoline. One 12 oz. bottle per tank. Run the motor at all speeds, allowing shut down time for soaking the additive into the carbon buildup. Then change oil, filter, and plugs. If everything else is correct, your motor should run like it should.

The motor ides at around 900 rpm.It ran fine when it was new. The problem started at around 20 HRS It now has around 60 HRS it is a 2004.The dealer said the throttle bushing update doesn’t apply to this motor.I don’t think the dealer has a laptop to connect to it .

Re: F225 rough idle

hello
0double check with a visual on the bushings
look at the throttle assy where the cable attachs. you will see a horizontal and a vertical gear. use a bright ligt and look at the bushings. if there are 5 white ones you need the update. if there are 3 black ones and a black washer its ok. I just did it on a F225 txrc.
as far as the dealer not having a lap top RUN ,RUN AWAY. or at a minimum ask to see his school certification in 4 stroke systems and fuel systems. that engine is idling way to fast.
you have a problem, your motor is telling you its sick. take it to a Dr or it WILL die a horrible death. and sometimes warrenty does not cover neglect. the dealer also needs a tech mate or equvalent tool to properly set the throttle shutters. most of the time the lap top just tells you what aint broke. but sometimes it will tell ya what is. if the motor dies yamaha will ask for a down load of the onboard computer.

Now that we know the REST of the story, follow "roddy's" advice, find a QUALIFIED dealer.

its not unusual for the throttles to go out of sync. this usually results in a rough high idle.
get the dealer to go through the static throttle sync settings. a vaccum mate will just confirm the throttles are sync'd. a good digital meter and the tps breakout is something he should have.
