F225turc stalls

When my F225 is hot, and after it has been shut down for a few minutes, then is restarted and I attempt to bring the boat up on plane, it stalls and quits. I can pump the primer bulb and the engine restarts and runs nomally. Three different Yamaha dealers have looked at the problem. The last took the boat out with instrumentation on the fuel system and could find nothing wrong. He thinks the problem is vapor lock, and said there is no fix.

I am aware of a technical bulletin, Vapor Recovery Kit, that is applicable to my engine, but the tech support guys in Atlanta don't think this mod will fix my problem.

One of the Yamaha dealers replaced the LP fuel pump in the engine. I have the old pump. There is nothing wrong with it. I'm thinking about installing it between the primer bulb and the engine, and turning on the pump for a few seconds when the engine begins to stall.

Any ideas?

test the check valve located between the top of the VST inlet and the lift pump intake.
from the factory it is wire tied to the lift pump bracket.
if its failing it can allow low VST tank level.
the vapor recovery kit is normally used on a hot restart issue and your not complaining of a hot restart. sounds like the VST liquid level is low for some reason on hot restarts.what is the fuel rail pressure at the time of the stall.

What do you consider a hot restart? My engine has never stalled when it is cold, only after I have made a run of several miles to a fishing hole, fished with the engine shut off for a half hour or so, then restarted. At that point, when I try to bring the boat up on plane, it stalls.

and it still sounds like the vapor seperator isnt filling.
check that valve.
or try to prime the system with the primer BEFORE taking off again. if that solves the issue then really check that valve.

I have had this problem and the vapor recovery kit solves it.

Re: F225turc stalls

Rodbolt,

The check valve you identified is on the LP pump recirc line. The normal flow through the valve is away from the VST tank, so I don't see how a problem with this valve could drain the VST tank. But I checked the valve anyway. It was stuck CLOSED! I'm thinking that maybe with the pump not recirculating it gets hot enough to become vapor bound after the engine is shut down. That would explain why I can get the engine going again by pumping the primer bulb. But I'm just guessing. I have ordered another check valve.

Your thoughts?
