I lent my boat to a friend of mine a few weeks ago he complained of bogging, so i decided to clean the carbs on my 1999 F80. As i did this i took pictures of the various stages of tear down, put everything back together and motor starts and idles perfect haven't taken it out for a water test yet. Last night I looked at the pictures and notice the greyish/white scaling texture around the middle cylinders next to fuel intake. Jeeze, i missed this when it was staring me right in the face. Anyhow, Is this caused from excessive heat? I am worried I may have cooked a cylinder or 2, or worse. I have yet to do a leakdown test, but i am afraid that i may need to have a look at the cylinder head, valves and pray it does not go any further that the head. Are there any special instructions/tricks i need to know about. I have a decent manul and the tools, and heck of a lot of patience. Looking forward to you help with this one.

This appears to be some sort of corrosion-type deposits that is relatively common on aluminum. Since its primarily on the cam cover I would not be concerned about it affecting engine performance or longevity. Chances are it would simply brush off with a stiff brush.

common saltwater/mineral corrosion. spray it with fluid film or equivalent and go boat riding, do you have the manometer to correctly set the throttle linkage as per the service manual?

Great, yes i set the carbs with a manometer, the 3rd carb was way off, that was brought back into sinc in a few minutes, i noticed the throttle return spring on 3rd carb had slipped out of it's slot, this along with 3rd carb being out of sinc may explain the rough idle and inconsistent power at wot. thanks for the help and settling my worry.
