I have an 86 sea nymph with a side console that I'd like to change into a center console. I'm wondering if i should even bother...
The motor is a 115 merc with Quicksilver controls for a side mount. Can these controls be modified to fit a center console??
The boat has teleflex cable steering. I could possibly re-route the steering cable under the floor, but i'm wondering if it will have enough flex to be re-routed in such a way.

Any input on such a project would be appreciated!

Teleflex under the floow will not take quite as much length as around the side, so you should be OK there. As for the controls, I have seen side mount controlls mounted to the side of the center console before. Looks funny to me, but it has been done.

I am planning to build a new center for my boat and hope that I have enough play in my teleflex to raise my steering wheel heigth about a foot.

I am planning on doing the same thing and have done a lot of research on console designs available, controls etc. I have already planned to upgrade to hydraulic to simplify the steering, I tried a boat with hydraulic steering and I want one even though its overkill for my small motor.

I have a ton of links for off the shelf consoles available but I have decided to custom make my own this winter while I repaint the hull and recarpet the interior, there really isn't much too them and to be honest the prices are a little on the high side for a prefabbed one with next to nothing in the way of features as storage boxes built in is all extra.

Here is some links, some are just pictures and dimensions so you can get an idea of space issues etc.

The Quicksilver control is nothing to adapt and many in those links already have space for that type of control built in. The key can be remotely mounted easily and cables can run under the floor.

Re: Fabricating Sea Nymph Console

Thanks guys!

I may go the route of building my own. That was originally my plan until I started seeing consoles on ebay, etc.. The steering module and cable is brand new, so I'd like to keep it if I can. However, I may need a different length cable once i move the console.

I'm actually toying around with leaving the boat as a side console. I want it primarilly for fishing, but the side console leaves more open room on the deck for wife, kids, etc. The boat already has a nice casting platform, so i may just add some carpet, accessories and giver her a go!
