I happened today to get stuck next to this cruiser (38'er maybe it's on a 40' flat at any rate.) waiting for a box and thought some of you guys might want a look at the cradle used to ship this big boy. I didn't have a chance to get a good look but the dimensional lumber that forms the base looks to be 4"x12" and the supports to be 1 1/2" ply like the stuff they use for container flooring. The supports had a thick foam cushion (looked to be about an inch or so when compressed.) and it appears they used carriage bolts to hold everything together.

Those Pursuits are gorgeous boats. Who ever is on the receiving end of what's sitting on top of all that lumber is a lucky individual.

As to pretty boats I saw a brand new Chris Craft loaded up and rolling down I-95 (Headed south of course.) its cradle was or at least appeared to be of the steel variety with only a few places actually touching the hull. Unfortunately I didn't get a shot of it as he was getting on the on ramp. I did however wind up back near that Pursuit and having more time on my hands grabbed a couple up close pictures.

As you can see the main beam is a pair of 2"x12"'s not a single 4"x12" the ply may very well be 3/4" doubled up as well. Having seen this I might if I was working on a V-hull make something similar but since I'm rockin' da' triple V I will just go with 2"x4" 's .

I wonder if they ship those cradles back to the factory for re-use. . . (probably . . .) It would be a shame to waste all of that good lumber .

Did you take these pics in Savannah, Kenneth? Maybe headed overseas.

I did indeed take them in Savannah GA and I agree the pursuit is almost certainly leaving our shores which is why I doubt they return the lumber. The lumber may cost but not as much as return shipping.
