Faded Canvas

My maroon colored canvas bimini top that keeps me out of the sun is fading from sun exposure.Does anyone know if I can dye the canvas to restore its color.I'd hate to drop 2-3 grand for another top.Thanks

I posted the same question a while and got ZERO replies.I know someone that used a spray paint for fabric and vinyl.It looked great but you must get very good and even coverage or it will show where it is thinner coverage.Charlie

Wow, what a GREAT question<br /><br />OK, stick with me. Here's what you do:<br /><br />Step #1 remove top from boat. <br />Step #2 put top into a kiddie pool. <br />Step #3 Fill pool with grape juice, black coffee, and cheep red wine, stir. <br />Step #4 remove, rinse, and air dry top. <br />Step #5 reinstall the top. <br /><br />VOILA! Yer done.

If/when you do end up replacing your top, get a color that has a fine pattern to it (eg mocha). From a distance the pattern blends to look like a solid but it won't show marks or fading for a lot longer.

When I was running a soft-top, Sunbrella bimini, I gave it a heavy coat of ScotchGuard every year.....<br />It Stopped all the Leaks,+ Little or No Fading in the 8 years I had it......<br /><br />In your case, I'd buy a few packages of Dye,+ head off to the local Laundry Mat(No reason to Color you own washing machine)......

Next time use a cover with a white top. It will reflect the sun and the shade will be cooler.

Hocus Pocus is right about one thing.. Using the kiddie pool trick and some dye will do the job, and not get you beaten to death by the laundromat owner..<br /><br />-Roger

Thanks for all the replies I'll check the Boston boat show for dye products.As far as hocus pocus, your method is a bit too extreme.I'd hate to have my head turned for a split second,the kid fall in the kiddie pool dye,and come out looking like the Grape Girl in Willie Wonka and the chocolate factory!OOOP
