Hi all, i'm redoing my boat seats it's a deck boat so they're just rectangle panels with foam and vinyl that sit over the fiberglass storage areas, several pieces make up the standard u shape like on a deck boat. Previous owner had redone a couple with i'm not sure what size ply (haven't pulled those apart yet) but his pieces are heavy as heck as each piece is about 4 foot in length, not sure if he used 1/2 or 3/4 or what.

What's the thickness most people use when redoing these? Then just coat with resin or cheap exterior paint or waterseal?

thanks!

Make sure you are using marine plywood, or at least pressure treated....I would think 1/2 inch would be fine....

I would use MDO Ply. 1/2' & give it a coat of epoxy. Then Paint with Rustoleum Profesional Oil based paint and It'll outlast you!!!

I'm just sayin...:D

thanks for the info, yeah i was thinking 1/2 would be fine. I'm pretty sure it's 3/4 in those pieces he made they're pretty hefty. MDO sounds like a good option.

Just curios why the paint it after epoxy? I was going to drill some drainage holes, seal, staple down the vinyl (stainless), then use a breathable sheet (not sure what it's called but it basically hides everything, vinyl ends and covers the bottom of the entire piece. Just kinda wondering what the paint would be for if not presentation?

thanks!

Epoxy has NO UV protection but since it is a seat bottom then I guess you would not have to worry about that to much so presentation I guess would be the onlything.

I'm just sayin...:D

Ahh ok yeah that makes sense then, well I'll go this route sans paint then thanks for the help both, i was hoping to pickup some plywood tomorrow but wasn't 100% sure if 1/2 would be ok.
