Faria tach adjustment help

I have a Faria tach with an hour meter rated for 6000 RPMs. I tested the boat out yesterday and hooked up a shop tach and determined that I am 500 -525 RPMs off what my tach reads.
I followed the directions from Faria on fine tuning the tach, but when I get it where its reading true, and pull the throttle back to neutral, my tach goes back to reading 100 RPMs.
Anyone else have this issue before and know how to fix it? I am thinking I may need to just send it in for repair.

do you have the 4-6-8 selector switch in the right location?
