Have a Faria tach attached to my 1997 Johnson 90 SPL. It doesn't move at all, so I am figuring it is either the tach or a faulty wire. Charging system works fine, and shows 12-13 volts on the Amp guage next to the tach.

First, I cleaned all the terminals to see if it is a corroded connection. No change. Next I want to check the signal wire from the motor to see if there is a break or ? What sort of voltage or ? should be coming from the signal wire to the tach?

Thanks

Ty

ty
expect low voltage AC signal ... strength varies with rpm. Gray wire from harness.
good luck

Ty
12-13 volts at all rpm does not sound like you are charging. Use a volt meter on the battery terminals with the motor off and compare with the motor running above 1500 rpm. You should see about a 2 volt difference. If not, along with the tach out, I'm afraid it points to a fried rectifier.
good luck
