Faria Temperature Gauges

I have a 2000 Regal 2660 and the temperature gauge has power going to it, as the needle jumps up when the ignition is turned on. I have checked the wire from the sensor to the gauge and it is ok. I ran a jumper wire from the sensor wire to ground and turned the ignition on with no difference in the gauge reading.

So, does this verify that the gauge is defective?

Thanks,

Brian

If it is 'pegging' with just the key on, I would be worried about the sender.

When you say that the needle jumps, are you saying that it goes full hot? It should do this with the key 'ON', and the lead grounded. With the key 'ON' and the wire in it's proper place, the gauge should show the actual (cold) temperature.

I have a brand new FARIA temp gauge that I never used...it will probably not match your current gauge, but is sure to be in perfect shape. Let me know if you need it....

No, when I said the needle jumps I just meant that it is a slight movement like all of the other gauges do when power is applied, movement might be 1/16 of a inch. It does not "peg"

This sounds to be normal.

Are you concerned that the gauge isn't reading correctly when your engine reaches operating temperature?

If you grounded the sender lead with the key "ON", and the engine not running, and the gauge did not peg out to the right (hot), then I would be shopping for a new gauge.

Like I said...I have a new one if it can be of any use. It may not be a direct match, but I would not leave the ramp without a known to be good gauge!

Happy boating!
