I been chasing the wrong thing. It is not a fuel problem I have, it is an ignition problem. #1&#2 cylinders aren't getting any spark. I said my hearing is shot. It sounded like it was idling to me. Help me out here guys. I'm looking at wires for loose, damaged, etc. My fields are starting to look pretty bad but I want the boat to run.

disconnect trigger from switchbox. With a multimeter check the resistance between the Brown wire and White/Black wire. It should be 800-1400 Ohms. You should have 800-1400 Ohms between the Purple wire and the White wire. On the coils the resistance should be 02-1.0 Ohms between the Green (Green/Stripe) wire post and the Black wire post. Between the spark plug wire socket and ground should be 800-1100 Ohms.
If you get all these readings then check voltage going to each coil from the switchbox while the motor is turning over or running. Be careful. It is high voltage. That would be the green or green/stripe wire and ground. It shoild be 180V+.

Re: Farmer vs 85hp Mercury

Thanks Ricksrstr I did everything you said and #1 and #2 coils were bad nothing between the tower and ground or to the wire behind it. Found two of them up at a marina close by bought & installed them. Put muffs on and started it. My hearing isn't as bad as I thought it sounded alot better. Took it to the lake and adjusted the carbs on the trailer. Out past the no wake it came right out of the hole and runs great. Muchas Gracias
