I just took the boat in for service and had the mechanic adjust the idle , well now the idle is right but now when I raise the fast idle lever it hardly advances the idle! almost like the cable is slipping, also when I put it in reverse the throttle has almost no effect from low to full throttle! In forward it is fine! any ideas on this? 1984 90hp evinrude

thnx
mark

Re: fast idle lever

I'm also having the same problem with my('82 115 OMC)fast idle lever. I've got the box open and here is what I've found for my problem so maybe this will help you. I do have the manual which really doesn't help much except for reassurance.

First of all, when you raise the level does it kind of feel loose with a lot of slop both up and down AND side to side? That's how mine acted. What I found when taking the box apart was the scew that holds the level was loose. I put some locktite on it and tighted it and that took care of that. It feels very smooth now but is not put back together yet.

I also noticed that the shift lockout lever(about 1/2'by 2 1/2") was in bad shape and maybe part of the problem. I haven't gotten around to see if I can buy just that part.

In my case the throttle shifted just fine in forward and reverse so I know the cable is OK and every thing else in the box looked OK.

Good luck
StillFishin'
