fast idle no longer works

hello i just rebuilt the carbs on my motor everything went well with that part of it all.

But when i tried to engage the fast idle by pulling the throttle lever out and moving it forward it sorta just goes into gear! before i would pull it and then i could rev it up a little now when i pull it out i goes into gear when trying to rev it a little. I also noticed there's a clunk when I try to go from forward back to neutral or reverse back to neutral it had never made that much noise before it is also alot stiffer and harder to move in general .

I tried to take it apart but couldn't figure out how to do it
can someone explain to me how this works or point me in the right direction to fix this issue?

You're saying that when you move the fast idle lever forward the engine goes into gear? Is it possible you mixed up the throttle and shift cables at the engine (throttle cable connected to shifter linkage, shifter cable connected to throttle linkage) ? If I'm understanding your description that's what it sounds like.

Actually ive never messed with any of that yet and this is the first time since ive had it that it has done this its been about 6 months . before today if i pulled the throttle outward it would i guess disengage is the term and i could rev it without going into gear but today when i pulled out on it it just goes back in and trys to get in gear

Hey im pretty sure i just figured out what happen.
the screw on the side that holds the throttle in had come a little loose and i think that the last time i tried pulling it out the throttle came off of the gear it rides on and moved forward some . in other words when i thought it was in neutral it was actually in forward gear ! thats why it kept puling back in.
when opened it up the first thing i noticed was that when the throttle was in neutral the mechanism it controls was actually in forward gear ! sorry i dont have a camera right now if i did i would post pics of my confusing post so others could learn
