I have some 3/4" foma insulation, that I will be ataching directly to OSB and wood roof studs.

Is there a special fastener for attaching insulation, with a wide haed to prevent ripping out?

I do not want to glue the insulation.

Thanks

I believe what you are looking for is called a cap nail. Standard nail with a large washer under the head, I've seen them in assorted lengths. Depending on the square footage you are attempting to cover it could take some time.

I've never used them personally, however, so I can't really speak to the effectiveness.

Is anything going to cover the insulation after it is installed? Is it on the bottom side of the rafter?

A few pieces of cheap wood strapping can be used to hold it in place.

No and no.

Since it will be in a hen house, it will all be exposed, except for a 2' strip of OSB, or similar, covering it around the floor, to keep the hens from pecking at the insulation.

I considered the wood strips, but was looking for something a little easier/faster, to put it up.

Thanks

Plastic cap nails- http://www.simplexnails.com/PlexCapDataSheet.html

Sold at most home improvement stores...

Edit- I meant to add- nailing into OSB can be difficult, especially if there's a big span with little support. That's some dense material to hammer a nail into by hand.

If your intent is to remove the insulation seasonally ...... just shoot a few wood screws in with a fender washer. We are not talking about anything heavy.

Thanks everyone.

Good point Bob! I will probably remove the insulation and re-use it, when I build the movable hen houses.

There are little orange plastic caps you get to fasten foam insulation. They usually are prenailed. I have boxed of them, but I have them because I don't use them.

I use to use wood squares and wood screws, now I just use truss screws. The larger head works great to hold foam.
