I have a Johnson 175 Faststrike on a 20' Bass boat.
What prop would get the most speed out of this engine?
I put a Renegade 27 pitch on it and it was slow. Too much prop for it I guess.

The RPM's were at approximately 4000 to 4300 at wot.
Motor is 20 inch shaft set on boat at standard height.
I'm looking to get maximum speed.

First your rpms are way to low they need to be around 5800.you really need to drop on down to a 25 or a 24.whats a standard height?do have a jackplate?

I guess I mean the motor is sitting on the transom at its regular position. Three is no jackplate.

How many more holes up can it go?you can take a level and put it on the cavation plate then measure the distance to the bottom of the hull. What kind of boat is it.you may have raise the motor and drop down to a 23P,the main thing is getting your motor up the right rpms so you dont kill it by lugging, this is done by setup and changing props, with the max in setup speed will follow.

It measures 5 1/2 inches to the bottom of the hull and there are two more left.

What do you think of a 3 blade stainless compared to the Renegade 4 blade?

Re: Fastest prop for Johnson 175

Are you sure your tacs working correctly??or theres nothing wrong with the motor??im doing better with the 3 blades on mine so far,but im still tweaking on mine right now.i would think with a 20'bass boat riged and ready a 23p may be a good place to start i think a 25 would lugg your motor a little.is there anyway you can borrow a prop and see?if a 23 puts you close then we maybe able to raise your motor a little if your water preassure is good.
