There's two ignition systems that can be found on Fastwins (or the Johnson equivalent), one with internal and external coils and one with just internal. Does anyone which is the newer (or better) system?

Also, at present I have the internal and external coil type system, could I change it to the internal only system, someone I have spoken to recently seems to think the crankshaft might be different thus affecting the points, personally I don't agree but thought I'd run it past you guys.

Cheers

Re: Fastwin Igntion

The newer system has external coils.
It would require some serious parts swapping to change it to the older system....IF it can even be done, which I haven't checked into. The armature plate is different, as is the plate mountings. The flywheel is different too.

Re: Fastwin Igntion

Thanks for the reply, all that needs to be done to the armature plate is one hole needs drilling in the recess where one of the coils sits, as for the flywheel I can probably source one of those. If you find out any more about whether it can be done please post because at the moment I'm facing a very large bill every time I need new external coils, the internal ones are dirt cheap and widely available.

Cheers
