Federal Jobs?

Are there any Iboater out there that work for the federal gov.? I'm considering about a position in a Naval Warfare Support Center and wondering what's your experience with the fed? Like it? don't like it? how is the benefit? chances of job cut? etc..? or should I stay in the private sector? Thanks.

Wife works for them and I used to. Pay is generally lower than the private sector but higher than state government. Bennies are great and when you add in the value of them, your actual compensation is very commiserate. Job security is also very good.

I worked as a sub-contractor in a federal building in Va, and my experience was very bad. First off, it appeared that morons and incompetents were top priority on the federal hiring list.<br /> Second, you'll find that there are layers and layers of management, but not many people who actually do the work. <br /> Third, the people who worked as a fed were generaly not very ambitious and were content with their "do nothing" "go nowhere" job. <br /> And lastly, you get to see first hand the incredible amount of tax money that is squandered by our govt.<br /> Not to mention the rediculous amount of PC and the stupid rules that are designed to avoid the "appearance of conflict of interest" between govt workers and contractors.<br /> I hated my time there, I would NEVER go to work as a fed, unless I ran for office. Since I'm honest and not rich, (not to mention a republican in a very liberal state)we all know what a waste of time THAT would be!

Yep - Flat worked for some defense manufacturer... Hmmmm... perhaps he talked a lil too much about his company?!

Thanks for the rundown Kalian. There is good and bad management in every cross section of society and is by no means limited to the government. Nor is it more prevalent in gov. in my opinion.
