Hello All,
Just to let you know that I got in touch with the people at Doller Offshore Marine and those guys are incredible, in 24 hours they reply to me 4 times for a 4.80$ seal and supply me with all the infos that I need - how much $ - delivry time - and more. The seal is still available and the cost is 4.80$ but the bad news is the shipping fees are 20.00$, but at least I could fix my gear case. So thanks for the suggestions, thanks to Steelespike.

Mario :)

My kicker motor - Chrysler 8 hp - model 83BD serial: 1010 (1973) - needs a prop shaft seal. The seal use to come with the prop shaft bearing cage, but even the bearing cage is no longer available. I went to web site: www.mercruiserparts.com and there it says that it is discontinued, I even went to a store near my place and he can't order it. I now some boys will say tough lock to you but can't anyone help Please .....

Mario

Ditto and Amen to Spike's Suggestion... SO Many of the "discontinued" bearing, & Seals, are "discontinued", because of the slow turn-over (sales volume) for the affected dealer networks...

MOST manufacturers (of ALL sorts of machine goods), use off-the-shelf bearings and seals, because the cost of developing single-use parts is "hi-$$$"... So, rather than spend unnecessary $$'s, they go to a catalogue, and simply pick the closest one which will do the job.

All that said, with rare exception, bearings and seals which are no longer available from the "OEM supplier", (for whatever project you're working on), are probably still available at a bearing supply house. If you live in an industrial region, or agricultural area, your chances of finding it in stock in one of these stores is even better, but even if it is not in stock, most bearing supply houses, should be able to order a suitable part that will handle your needs...
GOOD LUCK... Smokyforce,If you find you have to secure purchase of propshaft seal through a bearing supply ,make it clear to the counter person that you need one with a stainless jacket(marine application) , as most of the stock seals unless specified otherwise will be carbon steel.

Good Catch about the stainless seal housing Ob...

However, if push comes-to-shove, even a carbon steel unit is better than a leaking one... Will just require that you inspect it more often, and/or seal the surfaces which come in contact with the water with a proper coating of rust preventative paint or ??? I've found that a product called "liquid tape", which is sold through marine dealers, etc. and which is sold and used to seal wiring connections, works pretty well... Just don't glob a bunch of it on the soft seal surface... ONLY on the metal part of the housing...

GOOD LUCK... Obiwan Jeeper

I don't know about your particular engine but, I bought a lower unit seal kit at NAPA for my '70 55 Chrysler.

Almost forgot... Be sure to get a double lipped seal... If one is not available, buy two single lip seals, which have a mounting jacket of approximately 1/2 the thickness of the original, then install the first one inboard (with the lip pointing in to hold the oil in) and the 2nd one with the lip pointing outward (for obvious reasons...)

GOOD LUCK... Well that's great guys,

Thanks for all the reply and I am sure I will endup with a good fix with all your inputs. The idea to look with a seal or bearing shop sounds good to me - I will try it.

Thanks again !

Mario :)

If the shipping is $20, maybe you should get as many parts as you can from them for your engine( spark plugs, carb kit, impeller etc.) if the shipping cost remains the same.
