Ok I have a 135hp black max. The oil module was bad so I bought a new one and also a new oil cap because I cracked mine. I started the boat up and it will idle no problem no alarms or anything then when I go above idle i get a fast beeping. Is there a hose that I can pull of the side of the motor to see if oil is getting pumped in? Also how hot should the water be that comes out of the tell
I have never driven this thing before so I have no clue but the water is hot. I have the motor in half a drum of water right now doing my testing.
Thanks
Dave

Get a genuine mercury maintenance manual for that motor. In it is a detailed procedure for checking your oil alert system.

There are several sources of alarm. It could be the pump is failing, or it could be the ignition is failing. Could be the new cap, or the new alert module.

You have to go through the procedure to wig it out.

hope it helps

Ok how about this, I have a clear fuel filter that is in line between the fuel pump and the carbs. Shouldn't the fuel in that line have oil in it? Mine does not it is perfectly clear.

It should have oil in it. The filter, however, is pretty small and you might not see the color change from oil, depending on the oil. At idle, it's only about 1 percent oil. If it isn't getting oil, and there's oil in the tank, the pump (probably the plastic gear on the crank) is bad.

The checkout procedure will find out what the trouble is.
You need to get the book and check it out.

BTW, if you do not know if it's oiling, run 50:1 gas in it. Extra oil won't hurt, no oil will.

Re: few questions 1989 black max

My filter is about 2.5 inches long and 1 inch in diameter and my oil is a dark blue. I am thinking that I would def see the oil in the fuel. If I disconnect the hose that goes from the oil pump to the fuel pump inlet I should have oil coming out of there correct? I will get a book asap but it may take a week and I can't sit on my hands any longer I need to get this thing working and/or sell it. I really appreciate your patience with this matter.
thanks

When you pump the carbs full with the primer bulb, you push clear gas past the mixing T. The fuel in the filter will be absolutely clear.

If it will not alarm at idle, but alarms above idle, the most likely fault is in the ignition system, not the oil alert.

There is a wire going from the oil alert module to a terminal on a switchbox that feeds one of the coils, I believe #2. You can move that wire to any other cylinder and it should work. If you move it, and the alarm is now not sounding, #2 coil isn't getting a pulse from the switchbox.

One caveat, if the hall effect motion sensor in the oil pump is weak, it might exhibit the symptoms you describe.

The proper tests will easily isolate the problem. That's what I recommend.
