I'm trying to got he right way about repairing the deck on my 1986 1750v procraft boat that I purchased. I've taken out the seats and carpet and I'm ready to cut out the deck to ensure that my stringers and hull are safe. I want to check on the bones and not take any risks. I have a few questions of course. I'm just doing the lower deck. 1) how do I know where my stringers are so I don't cut into them and should I just cut around the edges. 2) Is totalboat penetrating epoxy a good epoxy for treating the 3/4" marine plywood? 3) what brand or type of glass and epoxy to secure the glass should I use? Is the epoxy for the glass the same as the penetrating epoxy I'll use for treating the deck? 4) Should I secure the deck with 5200 3M glue and then secure the edges and any plywood seams with more fiberglass? Do I need screws or will that just cause rotting? Thanks a lot to anyone that takes the time to read this and respond!

Your decking is likely 1/2 plywood, so set the skill saw for 1/2" and make some test cuts, away from the gunwales to slowly uncover the stringers and frames. As you find out what lies beneath, you can use a Sawzall and skill saw to get the entire deck out.

You may use any polyester resin and cloth to make repairs and waterproof the new deck. Epoxy is not necessary.

In a nut shell, after you have repaired the stringers, and replaced the bad foam (if any), you will coat the bottom of the new plywood decking with poly resin and screw it into the stringers with SS wood screws. Now cover the new deck with fiberglass cloth and saturate it with poly resin. You will need some way to attach the deck perimeter, if it cannot be fastened with screws.

There is a boat repair forum, with lots of info....
