I patched a hole in the deck with polyester resin no gel coat and didn't realize I needed a wax additive to harden it. I`ll be putting carpet over the deck so I'm not sure I need it hardened unless it effects water resistance. It will take days for the wax additive to get here by mail, so I`ve placed a plastic drop cloth over it to try and keep the air out and make it harden. Anyone know if this will work in lieu of a hardener wax? Will I be able to pull the plastic drop cloth up or will it be bonded to the deck?
I waited until it was fully cured tacky before I threw the painters plastic on.

sounds like you waited too long the plastic usually goes on before exotherm process if i recall to get the resin to crosslink with itself instead of trying to link with air , it will become less tacky over time usually a few days and its not tacky at all i have found.

It is fine. Plastic won't stick and carpet be fine. Hardener/wax is only needed to keep from fouling sandpaper if your going to sand and paint quickly.

My boat has no wax in anything i did to it. I painted and put carpet in there. Just FYI non waxed gel coat buffs to a shine to no problem.
