I have been looking for a small boat after having to get rid of mine a couple years ago due to motor issues. I finally found one that i thought was a great deal so i jumped on it, Checked it out, the guy said it was in great condition just the usual scratched and scuffs from being an vintage boat and said it was waterproofed, I banged on the transom it felt solid and did a check over and no real marks other than on the transom but since it felt solid I didnt mind them and showed me a video of having it on the water at the end of last year. The transom having sealant set off some red flags but the guy assured me it was due to being cautious and preserving the transom so i took his word for it. It had no bilge pumped hooked up so I ignored as who in their right mind would take a boat on the lake without a bilge that leaks or a bad transom and it was a beautiful boat. I bought it for 800 added things i wanted then took it out to the lake and low behold my bilge was going off every 2 minutes with quite a bit of water each time. I looked under and it had a stream of water coming from two spots above transom. Took it out took it home and removed the sealant along the top of the transom area and there's a long crack all the way through, not really transom but not sure what the part is called. My question is before i dump a bunch of money and buy a short shaft motor would this be worth fixing as I have fiberglass experience and would patch it up I want to know if this is more of a problem then i am thinking and would have to redo the entire transom or if i patched it up do you guys think it would be fine. I would hate to patch it and be on the lake and the whole back end of my boat cracks from stress of motor (25hp) and causes a disaster. Also those water couplers(I think thats what they're called) in the picture do i need those or could I patch a piece of fiberglass over them and remove them as while i was on the boat sat pretty low in water and water was going through those that made the boat leak. Thank you for any help provided! This a 15ft boat
