Hey all,
I'm looking at a 1975 Chrysler Charger fiberglass boat locally that needs some repairs. It has some damage to the fiberglass shell in the right rear of the boat, to the top side only, above water. How difficult is it to repair something like this? I have not seen the boat in person yet, but from the pictures, it appears that the damage would be somewhat acessible from inside the boat.

I can get the boat for a pretty good price. It has a 170 hp 6cyl Volvo Penta I/O. Any advice on that drivetrain setup?

Thanks for your advice.

Re: Fiberglass repair

Seth, It is hard to say from your description of a picture you saw:love:, it could be hard or easy to do. The good news is that it doesn't "seem" to be a structural issue. If so the repair would be asthetic only. You will end up using cloth and resin on the inside, and cloth/poly putty and possibly gel coat on the outside. You will either need to match the color with the fiberglass products you use, or use some paint to touch it up.

I would stay away from putty's as much as possible. Use resin and cloth to the fullest extent. You will have a much stronger repair. Also, make sure you apply the resin to a well prepped area free from any paints or primers.
