Hello folks, I have alittle problem with my deck on my double hull Livingston boat. It had a joint/crack patch that was seprating (the work was done by the previous owner) so I thought no biggie just scrape & sand off the putty patch and re-fiberglass but as i started to scrape&sand the fiberglass became really brittle and there is a lot of flex with the fiberglass and it looks like its just air space between the bottom of the hull and the deck. My question is whats the best way to this repair? I dont want to rip the deck up.
I will try to post some pics. The deck is about 8" wide before it seperates to a 30% angle of tight fiberglass in each direction.
Thanks for any advice.

Re: Fiberglass Repair

really need to see pics.....the brittle glass could be caused by water intrusion from the previous repair.....or several different things.

Re: Fiberglass Repair

Small Livingstons are built fairly light and thin, so after a period time most need some sort of repair, typically the keel on each side wears through. Don't worry about the old glass, just grind the surface, don't go all the way through, use it as a shape to glass over. Grind an area a couple inches larger than the bad spot and glass over it.

If you can post a pic you'll get more detailed info.
